Amanda Brugel
Pointe Claire resides in a uninhabited area of Montreal Island, which is known as West Island. The West Island has a lot of diverse communities. For those who haven't known about it may mistake it for a separate island facing west. Many times, it is credited as the birthplace of Amanda Brugel but while that is true, her stay there was not long. Brugel grew on Courtice just outside Oshawa within Ontario. Her initial ambition was to pursue a career as an actress however, after a rapid increase in size, her friends could no longer dance along with her. In an article published by Toronto Star, she revealed that she wore heels and was 6 feet 1 inches tall. When I grew out of my male dancers, I decided to quit. A lot of former dancers go on to act. In the case of Brugel it was the guidance by her drama instructor at her high school which pushed her to take the step she required. One of her teachers suggested she try out for a school play. It was her choice to take on the main character in Anne of Green Gables after she tried out. This led to a Fine Arts Talent Scholarship at York University where she attended the Theater Program and graduated with the Bachelor in Fine Arts degree in the year 2000. Over the past 20 years since Brugel has landed roles in over 60 shows on both small and large screens drawing the most attention when she landed the part as Rita on the award-winning series The Handmaid's Tale (pictured below). Brugel was only seen on a few instances in the initial season of The Handmaid's Tale. The only Canadian participant.
